Court Correspondent :
The High Court Division of the Supreme Court on Monday questioned the legality of a Dhaka University (DU) syndicate decision that has been taken to send Assistant Professor Rushad Faridi on forced leave.
The High Court issued a rule asking the concerned authorities of the university to explain in two weeks as to why the syndicate’s decision to send a teacher
of Economics Department on forced leave should not be declared illegal.
DU Vice Chancellor, two Pro-Vice Chancellors, Registrar, Dean of Social Science Faculty and Chairman of Economics Department have been made respondents to the rule.
Earlier, the court heard the submissions on a writ petition filed by Rushad Faridi challenging the syndicate’s decision to send him on forced leave. Petitioner’s lawyer Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua told newsmen that the syndicate on July 12 decided to send his client on forced leave without assigning any reason. The syndicate has no authority to send any teacher or staff of the university on forced leave under Dhaka University Order 1973, Council added.
