Since their ouster in 2001, the Taliban militants have maintained their insurgency against the US-led mission in Afghanistan and the Afghan government. As President Joe Biden has decided to withdraw the US troops by September 11 next, the Taliban has rapidly expanded its control, positioning itself for a return to power. Finally, the militant group captured the country including its capital Kabul, by August 15.
It is a shame and a loss of faith to see the superpower US leaving Afghanistan after being there 20 years fighting a group of Taliban equipped with old fashioned weapons. The government now talks of assuring the American people how to bring back their soldiers.
The US has to be responsible for making lives unsafe for the whole Afghan people. If America is for themselves the sea of the Atlantic is their safety. The Americans can be just another state but not a pride superpower for human rights. We have to say leadership makes a country a great player in world politics. It seems America is confused about leadership and not about the mass of weapons which will be only power of destruction.
We see hope that the Western countries are becoming vocal in criticising the wrong policy followed in Afghanistan to make the Taliban stronger and life unsafe for Afghans.
We do not say that the US did nothing good to reform Afghanistan. But it means nothing other than spending phoney when in the end they run away leaving everything to vanish. Afghans have no reason to be grateful to NATO countries. They have every reason to treat them as enemies. Why the US did not help the rest of Afghanistan to be fighters against the Taliban?
Afghanistan was doing well before the foreign powers made it a brutal country. Afghanistan was a safe and peaceful country.
We strongly believe that if the Western countries go back with real zeal to fight the Taliban they will fight for their lives in no time.
We hope that America will in future give up the bad habit of offering bright hope and then run away making the country more dangerous.
