A seminar on effects of climate change on agriculture and several problems faced by women those are engaged in agriculture sector was held at CSS Ava Centre, Khulna arranged by non-government development organisation JJS and Manusher Jonno Foundation. recently. Bonossri Mitra Niogi, Gender Advisor, Manuser Jonno Foundation anchored the whole program and the chief guest of the program was Helal Hossain, DC, Khulna. At the beginning of the program, ATM Zakir Hossain, Executive director, JJS gave the introductory speech. Abdul Latif, Deputy Director, Agriculture Extension Department, Nargis Fatema Jamin, District Women Affairs Officer, Khulna were present at the program as special guests. Zakia Naznin, Deputy Program Manager, MJF presented a resourceful paper on the role of women in agriculture sector. Dr. Mostofa Sarowar, Professor, URP discipline, KUET and Dr. Tuhin Roy, Associate Professor, Social Science discipline, KU discussed participated as main speakers and tried to give solutions by their expertise. Moreover, deputy director, family planning department, Guru Prosad Ghosh, Md. Abul Alam, District Officer, Bangladesh Shishu Academy attended the program. Mr. Jomendronath poddar, District Primary Education Officer , different representatives of several non-government organisations, journalists and women farmers from grassroots level discussed on the titled issue.
DC Helal Hossain discussed about the importance of women empowerment that has taken a major development attempts from ten attempts taken by Prime Minister, Bangladesh. Then, he acknowledged the problems for lagging behind the women such as religious views, social acceptance etc. But, he assured that situation has been started to change and he committed to support disadvantaged women by SME loan, IT training, technical and financial support for small scale innovation project, and providing coordination from the service providing organisations at Upazila, District level. At the same time, other respective govt.and non-govt. representatives participated in the program actively and tried to give their valuable solutions for reducing the problems faced by rural women in agriculture sector.
