Department of Architecture and Department of Urban and Regional Planning, BUET are jointly organizing Urban Thinkers Campus (UTC) on 6-8 November, 2015 at BUET campus. As an associate partner of World Urban Campaign (WUC) of UN-Habitat, this year BUET has got the opportunity to hold the UTC in Dhaka. Urban Thinkers Campus (UTC) is an initiative of UN-Habitat for critical exchange between different actors and decision-makers who believe that urbanization is an opportunity and can lead to positive urban transformations. The outcome of UTC-Dhaka 2015 will be delivered at the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) in 2016.
This programme will include Urban Thinkers Sessions on four sub themes: (Housing, Identity, Resilience & Mobility); Ten Constituent Group Sessions for group debate between parliamentarians, urban researchers from different academia, experts from professional fields, and different stakeholders i.e, representatives from different local authorities, civil society organizations, business & industry, grass root organizations, representative from women, children and youth on different challenges of urbanizations for Dhaka city.
Later Drafting session& Plenary session will help· summarize the views and proposals as the Dhaka Declaration in the format of urban agenda to contribute to the Habitat III conferencein 2016 at Quito.Minister for public works Engr. Mosharraf Hossain will grace the closing session as chief guest.
About 200 participants from different have been invited to participate in this three day event. Department of Architecture & Urban Development Directorate(UDD), Ministry of Housing & Public Works (GoB), Dhaka North City Corporation(DNCC), Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC), Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakhha (RAJUK), Institute of Architects Bangladesh (lAB), Bangladesh Institute of Planners(BIP), Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA), Jahangirnagar University (JU), Urban Study Group (USG) & International Union of Architects (UIA) all are playing important role in organizing this auspicious event in BUET, Dhaka as organizing partners.
Prof. Khaleda Ekram, VC, BUET will preside over the inaugural session in BUET Council Bhanan at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
