A seminar on stevia cultivation of sweet national crop has been held at Bangladesh Sugarcrop Research Institute, Ishwardi. On Monday at the Sugarcrop Training Auditorium, the keynote address was delivered by Dr. Kuasha Mahmoud.
Director General of Sugarcrop was the chief guest. Amjad Hossain. Munir Hossain, Senior Scientific Officer, Training and Technology Transfer Department was on the stage as the moderator. Heads of all departments of Sugarcrop, scientists and journalists were present at the seminar.
During the Q&A session of the seminar, it was said that stevia is a potential crop in the country. This crop will benefit farmers and people in the near future as well as economic development. Stevia leaves will meet the sweet needs of diabetics in particular. The use of stevia leaves will not increase blood glucose levels in diabetic patients.
