Seminar on ‘Modern Biotechnology’ held at DU

A day-long seminar on “Development of Stress Tolerant Peanut: Breeding Lines Using Modern Biotechnology” was held at the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS) on Dhaka University (DU) campus on Saturday.
DU Botany Department arranged the seminar in association with USDA while Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the seminar as the chief guest.
Presided over by the Chairman of the Botany department Professor Dr Md. Abul Bashar, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Shah Md Aminul Haq and Director General of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) Dr Md Rafiqul Islam Mondal addressed the function as special guests.
Dean of the Biological Sciences faulty Professor Dr M Imdadul Hoque delivered welcome speech while Dr Ahashan Habib and PhD fellow Tanjina Akhtar Banu presented key-notes on the topics.
Professor Siddique emphasized on the need of undertaking joint research programme with the collaboration of DU and other Research Institutions.
He also urged the researchers to conduct research in order to develop biological science education as well as agriculture sector of the country, and stressed on establishing “Green House” and “Animal House” at DU to upgrade the quality of Bio-science research.
A total of sixty teachers, researchers and officers from Dhaka University, ministries and research institutions participated in the seminar.
