JnU Correspondent :The Department of Mathematics of Jagannath University hosted a seminar titled ‘Applications of Mathematics in Real Life’, headed by Bangladesh Mathematical Society (BMS) at the university central auditorium on Saturday.JnU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mizanur Rahamn was present as the chief guest in the programme.Chaired by Mathematics Department Chairperson Professor Dr Rezaul Karim, the program were addressed, among others, by Dr Anwar Hossain, Professor (Rtr) of Mathematics Department of Dhaka University (DU), Professor AFM Khodabad Khan of DU, Professor Dr Ashraful Alam, Dean of Science Faculty of JnU, Professor Sajeda Banu, President of BMS, Professor Dr Shahidul Islam, General Secretary of BMS, Professor Dr Layek Andallah, Convener of seminar organising committee of BMS. Professor Dr Payer Ahmed of JnU gave a welcome speech in the ceremony while Dr Jahrul Alam, Professor of Memorial University, Canada, presented a keynote paper on ‘Multiscale large eddy simulation of the atmospheric boundary layer’.Addressing Mathematics as the science of all science, VC Professor Dr Mizan said, “We cannot think a digital world without mathematics. Such kind of programme swells the contemporary mathematical knowledge of the young learners, also application oriented research enhances the quality of life in our poverty stricken society”.The day-long programme included with discussion, scientific session and poster presentation. The whole programme was conducted by Md Alamgir Hossain, Assistant Professor of the department. The programme concluded through establishing an organasation, named after ‘World Mathematics Philanthropists Team (WMPT)’.
