Campus Report :
Department of Environmental Science & Disaster management (ESDM) of Daffodil International University (DIU) organized a seminar on ‘The Status of Remote Sensing in Forest Inventory and Management with Emphasis on Unmanned Aerial System’ in association with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on Wednesday at 71 Milonayoton of the university. Prog Dr SM Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Acting Vice Chancellor, DIU was present in the seminar as the chief guest while Dr Demetrios Gatgiolis, Research Forester, Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station, US Forest Service was present as the keynote speaker. Prof Engineer AKM Fazlul Haque, Register of DIU, Dr ABM Kamal Pasha, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Environmental Science & Disaster management (ESDM) were also addressed in the program.
While addressing as the chief guest Prog Dr SM Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder said, due to increasing global warming and many other reasons, forest area of Bangladesh are under risk. So we need proper research to overcome this problem. But it is very difficult to enter into remote area of forest and collect data and information. So how we collect data from remote area of forest by using drone technology, this seminar is about that. Students will benefited from this seminar. He expresses hope.
While presenting the keynote speech Dr Demetrios Gatgiolis said that globally the climate is under risk. Forest area are exiting more risky situation. Sundarban is not except from this. So it’s high time to take initiative to save Sundarban. And that is why research is needed. We know, data of remote area of forest for research is also needed. For collecting this kind of data, nowadays drone technology is using. It’s a fantastic system for collecting data.
Dr Demetrios Gatgiolis said that we can use drone for capturing photo and video from forest. Forest depart of Bangladesh is using this technology. He added. In the meantime he thank to DIU student to make drone.
