Seminar on earthquake at UGC held

A workshop on ‘incorporating Earthquake Resilient Features in Engineering and Technological Universities Curriculum’ joinly organized by UGC and National Alliance for Risk Reduction and Response Initiatives (NARRI) was held at UGC Auditorium recently.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, MP attended the programme as Chief Guest, while UGC Chairman (State Minister) Prof Dr A K Azad Chowdury presided over the function. UGC Member Prof Dr Atful Hye Shibly gave the vote of thanks. Prof Dr Mehedi Ahmed Ansary, Department of Civil Engineering, BUET presented the key-note paper on the occasion. Farah Kabir, Country Director Action Aid gave the welcome address on the occasion.
Education Minister under score the need for developing earthquake resilient features in the course curricular and syllabuses of the universities.
UGC Chairman said that public awareness and architectural design should be considered at the time of building construction alongside following the national building code.
UGC Members- Prof Dr Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, Prof Dr Abul Hashem, Prof Dr Md Akhtar Hossain, Vice-Chancellors of different public and private universities, UGC Secretary Dr Md. Khaled, Deans, UGC officials and Representatives from NARRI and Action Aid were present on the occasion.
