A seminar on cyber bullying was organized by the Student Affairs Office of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) on Monday in line with the Cyber Security Awareness Month. The chief guest Barrister Omar H Khan, Advocate of the Bangladesh Supreme Court, discussed cyber bullying in society and the ICT Act, with specific focus on the consequences for both the victims and perpetrators of cyber crimes.
Naima Alam, Lecturer in the ULAB School of Social Science, followed up with a presentation of the many forms of cyber bullying – including those of recent celebrities. She then explained the existing policies against cyber bullying at the university. The session was followed by a Q&A.
Juditha Ohlmacher, Member of the Board of Trustees, welcomed the participants with a strong emphasis on the need to raise awareness about the consequences of cyber bullying. Later in the program, ULAB’s Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Imran Rahman awarded certificates to the winners of a presentation contest titled: “What are the Psychological Benefits and Drawbacks of Social Media?”. The program was attended by the ULAB Registrar Prof Akhtar Ahmed, faculty and students.
