Remembering the occasion of National Children Day and the birthday of the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Department of Law of Daffodil International University (DIU) organized a seminar on ‘Child Rights in Bangladesh : Special Focus on Right to Education’ on Thursday at 71 Milonayoton of the University. Mahmuda Sharmeen Benu, ndc, Honorable Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs was present at the seminar as chief guest and M Habibur Rahman, Vice Chair, Bangladesh ECD Network and Senior Educationist Advisor, Save the Children was present as the special guest while Dr Farhana Helal Mehtab, Head, Department of Law, DIU presided over the seminar. Prof AM M Hamidur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, faculty member of different departments and students of DIU were present at the program.
Addressing as chief guest Mahmuda Sharmeen Benu said, there are two challenges for ensuring the children’s education right- One of them is lack of awareness and other is lack of law’s implementation. If we can overcome these two challenge, we could be able to fulfill the hundred percent education right of children. Ministry of Women and Children Affairs is working hard to reduce these barriers. She said, most of the children don’t go to school because of their poverty. So, government is distributing at least 30 kg rice per family among the 10 lac very poor and destitute family. Beside this, to eradicate malnutrition for ensuring deliverance of healthy child, 8 lakh women have been getting maternity allowance from Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
Mahmuda Sharmeen Benu also said that we have law for prevention of child labor and we have to ensure the implementation of this law. Prevention for child labor and child abuse, beside ministry of women and children affaires other ministry’s should come forward.  
Addressing as special guest M. Habibur Rahman said that primary education is our backbone.
 If we couldn’t ensure quality primary education, we would never be a developed nation. So, first of all, we will have to ensure the quality primary education.
For ensuring quality primary education it’s necessary to ensure quality education, quality teaching learning materials, reading friendly school environment, quality monitoring as well as examination system and parental awareness. he added.
M Habibur Rahman also said, in our country, 5.5 million children are not going to primary school till now.
If we fail to include this huge number of children into primary education we will fail to achieve the SDG.
