Selima gets TIAW award

The International Alliance for Women (TIAW) has announced Selima Ahmad, vice chairperson of Nitol Niloy Group and president of Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI), as the
recipient of the TIAW World of Difference Lifetime Achievement Award-2014-2015. The prestigious award is given each year to a woman of great achievement, whose actions have truly made a difference globally in the economic empowerment of women, said in a press release of BWCCI.
Selima Ahmad has been working for the private sector development for the last 28 years and actively involved in developing more than 7,000 women entrepreneurs.
Her company Nitol-Niloy Group is one of the reputable leading business houses in Bangladesh having 26 companies amongst which six are joint venture and three public companies which includes automobiles, cement, paper, real estate, electronics and financial services.
She has been able to anspire women to a brighter future, to engage as entrepreneurs and to also move beyond micro businesses into more ambitious ventures, all within a society that faces significant hurdles for women in the norms of tradition and culture.
“According to TIAW motto “Connecting to Make All the Difference in the World”, Selima Ahmad completely embodies that notion through all the work she has done and the impact it has had internationally. Ms. Ahmad is truly an inspiration!” the e-bulletin of TIAW writes.
Recognising TIAW World of Difference Award recipients is a highlight of TIAW when it holds a gathering of women from around the world to participate in the Global Forum that informs and inspires a broad base of influential local and international participants.
This year’s Global Forum event will be held on October 21 – 23, 2015 in Washington, DC. Selima Ahmad is going to deliver a keynote speech on this grand ceremony.
The TIAW e-bulletin also writes, “TIAW includes women’s networks representing thousands of women around the world to promote the economic empowerment and advancement of women, so on behalf of every one of them, we congratulate Ms. Selima Ahmad for the outstanding impact she has made throughout the world.”
