UNB, Chittagong :Two separate cases have been filed against 106 people in connection with the seizure of a Myanmar flag carrying trawler with at least 625 people on board in the deep sea en route to Malaysia illegally.Lieutenant Commander Mahbubur Rahman filed two cases-one against 84 under the Foreign Citizenship Act and another against 24 under the Human Trafficking Act-with Patenga Police Station on Tuesday night, said Shahabuddin Ahmed, officer-in-charge of the police station.The Myanmar flag-carrying trawler which was seized on Monday by Bangladesh Navy in the deep sea with at least 625 people on board, including many Myanmar nationals, en route to Malaysia illegally, reached here on Tuesday evening.It anchored at the Navy’s Ready Response Berth (RRB) jetty beside 15 no. ghat area in the port city’s Patenga at about 6:45 pm.Bangladesh Navy’s warship Durjoy intercepted the trawler on the deep sea at about 9:00 am on Monday. At a press briefing, the Navy said the Myanmar flag-carrying boat was seized from the deep sea with at least 625 people on board, some 130-135 nautical miles off the south-west of Saint Martin’s Island.Of them, 555 were males, 31 females and 26 children. There were also 11 Myanmar nationals and two Bangladeshi human traffickers on board. The trawler was illegally sailing to Malaysia to traffic out the people on board. The rescued passengers and the traffickers were handed over to Patenga Police Station.
