Case against casino brothers: Seized cash, other objects handed over to police

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has a case against casino brothers Enamul Haque Enu and his brother Rupon Bhuiyan, a day after seizing huge amount of money, foreign currency and gold from their houses during a raid in Old Dhaka.
The case was filed with Wari Police Station under Special Power Act and Arms Act accusing the expelled ruling party leaders.
On Tuesday, RAB recovered Tk 26.55 crore in cash, fixed deposit receipt (FDR) worth Tk 5.15 crore and gold ornaments from 5 vaults at a flat (Lane-1 of Wari’s Lalmohon Saha Street) of expelled ruling party leaders–Enu, and his brother Rupon-during the raid
Enamul was the vice-president of Awami League’s Gandaria Thana unit, Rupon is the same unit’s joint general secretary.
Both were shareholders of the Dhaka Wanderers’ Club, where an illegal casino was busted and sealed by RAB earlier.
During the drive, the elite force personnel also seized 9,300 USD, 174 Malaysian ringgit, 5,350 Indian rupees, 1,195 Chinese yen, 11,560 Thai baht, 100 UAE dirhams and some gambling chips from the same flat.
Sarowar Alam, Executive Magistrate of RAB, who was present during the special drive, handed over the seized cash and other objects to the police.
Assistant Director of RAB Media Wing, Sujoy Sarkar, told media that a case has been registered against Enu-Rupan under the Special Powers Act at Wari Police Station in connection with the seizure of money. In addition, a letter has been sent to the CID chief stating that the seizure should be included in a money laundering case.
