Kim Garth, the Ireland all-rounder, is amongst the 20 players to be offered a Victoria contract for the upcoming 2020-21 Australian women’s domestic season. The Irish international, who has featured in 34 One-Day internationals and 51 Twenty20s for her country, will join Victoria as an overseas recruit even as she intends to apply for permanent Australian residency.
Garth has previously featured in the Women’s Big Bash, having played for the Perth Scorchers and the Sydney Sixers. “Kim Garth has played a lot of cricket within Australia in recent seasons and brings further international experience to the squad. She will play as an overseas player initially. However, she intends to apply for permanent residency allowing her the opportunity to hopefully one day play for Australia,” Shaun Graf, Cricket Victoria’s general manager of cricket, said.
Meanwhile, Cricket Victoria (CV) has announced the annual retainer list for the upcoming 2020-21 domestic season. Chris Tremain, who was left out of the Sheffield Shield squad for the final few games last season, has shifted allegiance to New South Wales (NSW) as he looks to resurrect his stalled Test career while Peter Siddle, who announced his international retirement late last year has shifted base across to Tasmania.
Leg-spinner, Wil Parker, who made his Sheffield Shield debut last season has secured a full contract after pledging his future to cricket. Having been earmarked as a prospective top-20 AFL talent, the 18-year old was courted by many football teams before the Covid-19 pandemic brought the soccer season to a halt in Victoria.
Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell and James Pattinson are the three Victorians with national contracts while their female counterparts include Meg Lanning, Sophie Molinuex, Ellyse Perry, Annabel Sutherland, Tayla Vlaeminck and Georgia Wareham.
