Security steps being taken for Durga Puja

Law enforcement agencies have taken all-out security measures to keep the law and order situation normal during Durga Puja, one of biggest religious festivals of the Hindu community.
There will be foolproof security measures in place at vulnerable puja mandaps across the Sylhet City and Districts.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) and Sylhet District Police authorities have separately taken adequate security measures for ensuing smooth observance of the festival beginning on October 22.
Sylhet Police Super Noora Alam Minaon on Tuesday told that a total of 3000 police including village police and Ansar have already been deployed in the first week of this month at all 880 puja mandaps in the district.
“We have taken early preparation in the wake of recent killings of two foreigners in the country,” he said.
Additional Police Super of Detective Branch told that both plainclothes and uniformed police are patrolling the puja mandaps areas every day.
Police will also patrol round the clock before one week of Durga Puja.
Preparations for making idols are going on in full swing at all 40 puja Mandaps in Sylhet City and 360 puja mandaps in Thirteen upazilas of the district, he said and added that village police are now patrolling in and around the mandaps round the clock.
BSS from Narayanganj adds: The district administration here on Wednesday held a preparatory meeting to ensure peaceful celebration of Durga puja festival of the Hindu community which kicks off on October 19.
Chaired by acting deputy commissioner Siddiqur Rahman, the meeting was addressed by ADC (general) Gausul Azam, additional police super Md. Zakaria, sadar UNO Afroza Akter Chowdhury, president of the district unit of Bangladesh puja udjapon parishod Shankar Shaha, president of the district Hindu, Bouddha Christian Oikkya Parishad Gopinath Das, president of district Ghatak Dalal Nirmul committee Advocate Chandan Shill and representatives of different puja mondop committees in the district spoke on the occasion.
