Few cricket playing nations are hatching conspiracy to ruin the bright future of cricket in Bangladesh, and with that objective those countries had have raised the security matter, said former cricketers, security analysts and politicians on Tuesday.
The critics observed that the delay in Australian cricket team’s tour to Bangladesh might be part thereof.
The Australian cricket team captained by Steve Smith was due to arrive in Bangladesh on September 28 for playing two Test matches in Chittagong and Dhaka. But the cricket’s governing body Cricket Australia (CA) all on a sudden in Sydney informed a day before that the team was not going to Bangladesh unless a fresh report about the players’ safety was received from a two-member team.
“Bangladesh is passing their best time in their cricket history with about 70 per cent wining rate this year. Very few counties are so much consistent as are Bangladesh on their home condition,” Akram Khan, former captain of Bangladesh team, told The New Nation on Tuesday.
He said that the Tigers had improved a lot, especially at home. After the Ashes hangover, the Aussie team fear to accept Bangladesh challenge. This might create an extra pressure on Australian side.
Terming the security concern as a lame excuse, Akram Khan further said that some Aussie cricketers earlier sounded a note of good prospect of the Test series in Bangladesh.
“They may face humiliation in the series if the home side’s performance remains as it was all through the year,” he said.
When asked, Akram Khan said, Bangladesh is the safest place for sports. The nation is a sports loving nation. It had already hosted mega cricket events and series with the inclusion of highest security measures.
The Bangladesh side has recently beaten India, South Africa and Pakistan in 50-over series at home.
“I disagree with the Australian opinion. I would like to assure that the security environment in our country is congenial for the Australian to come and play,” Major General (Retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, a security analyst, told The New Nation yesterday.
Bruising aside any security threat, he called upon the Australian to come to Bangladesh to play the Test series fearlessly.
“Sudden crisis regarding the tour of Bangladesh by Australian Cricket Team is not comprehensible. Bangladesh cricket has to move forward facing and defeating all hurdles, said Suranjit Sengupta, a senior Awami League Leader.
Ruling out any possibility of any terrorist or militant attack, Suranjit said, there is no possibility thereof as this government had successfully curbed the militancy and terrorism..
“There is no security threat in the country. Nothing has happened here that may lead the Australian side to cancel the tour. If they come to play, we will arrange the highest security measures for them,” Nazmul Hasan, President of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said this while addressing a press briefing on Tuesday.
The briefing was held at the BCB office in the capital.
Nazmul Hasan also said that the Government of Bangladesh has already taken the matter with utmost importance. So, I see no reason to scrap the tour by the Australian authorities.
“Bangladesh has become a good cricket team. The cricketers have been showing their talent by defeating big teams,” Shamim Chowdhury, a cricket commentator, told The New Nation on Tuesday.
