Law enforcing forces, including intelligence agencies, have been asked to guard the embassies, airports, churches, temples and other public places so that no tragedy happens in the country unlike Sri Lanka.
The Home Ministry has directed the law enforcers to look after the safety of the countrymen and the foreigners at any cost, the Ministry sources said.
Meanwhile, the Police Headquarters (PHQs) directed the top police officials to remain alert across the country.
The new direction came on Sunday after eight serial blasts in Sri Lanka that claimed almost 300 lives, said Md Sohel Rana, Assistant Inspector General (Media and Public Relations) of the PHQs.
He said the Field Commanders were directed to remain alert across the country for the sake of the public safety.
Police are fully prepared to control any untoward situation. Earlier, the top police officials were directed to beef up security ahead of Easter Sunday and Shab-e-Barat.
Terror groups in the country may be inspired after Sunday’s synchronised attack in Sri Lanka, but they are no longer capable to carry out any such attack right now, said Monirul Islam, Chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.
But “We are on alert,” he said at a view exchange meeting organised by Crime Reporters’ Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) at CIRDAP auditorium in Dhaka.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that Bangladesh’s security forces are ready to meet emergencies.
“People of our country believe in brotherhood. It is a country of communal harmony. We don’t want to see any attack at churches, mosques or temples in our country,” the Minister said.
State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Mahbub Ali has said that the government is committed to ensure safety and security of both international and local tourists across the country.
Additional policemen have been deployed to strengthen surveillance in key establishments, diplomatic area and religious establishments. Security of all airports of the country has been enhanced, airport officials and police said.
In another development, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) sent security instructions to all international and domestic airports of the country, said a top official of Aviation Security (Avsec).
The CAAB directive came in a meeting on Sunday after the incident in Sri Lanka where Group Captain Abdullah Al Farooq, Director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, representatives of Rapid Action Battalion, Airport Armed Police Battalion, Special Branch of Police and other intelligence agencies, were present, he said.
