Staff Reporter :
The BNP said on Wednesday that any security pact with India would be suicidal and a threat to the country. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should therefore think twice before signing the deal.
“Any security pact with India would be suicidal for Bangladesh. It will go against our independence and sovereignty,” said BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi while addressing a press briefing in the party’s Naya Paltan office.
Rizvi said, “If the national security depends on India and if our security policy is designed by the neighbouring country, then there would be no independence of Bangladesh.”
The BNP leader said, security treaty is very sensitive issue. National security, independency and sovereignty are related with such pact. So, the nation is seriously worried about the matter.
“The people of our country will never accept any secret treaty. They will prevent that with all of their strength. All the political parties and organizations will reject such pact,” he said.
Rizvi said, PM Sheikh Hasina suddenly took the anti-Indian stand. She alleged that Indian intelligent agency RAW was behind the BNP’s victory in 2001general electon. Rizvi labeled it as mysterious.
People know who is RAW’s toy. “The Indian agency always works to destroy the BNP,” he said.
The PM’s speech in Luxmipur district on Tuesday urging vote for ruling party’s symbol boat was clear violation of electoral laws, because that might influence the upcoming Comilla City Corporation polls.
BNP central leader Habibul Islam, ABM Mosharraf Hossain and Munir Hossain, among others, were present.
