Kishoreganj District Administration has taken tight security measures in the district town and its adjoining areas for ensuring a pleasant Eid-ul-Azha celebration scheduled to be held on September 02.
Law enforce has taken security measures before and after the great religious festival of the Muslim respectively in the district town and upazila headquarters of the district.
The decision to adopt strong security measures at a district review meeting of Law and Order in collectorate conference room with District Megistrate Md. Azimuddin Biswas in the chair.
Police Super, BGB Sector Commander, RAB- 14, Kishoreganj Camp Commander, Civil Surgeon, Upazila Chairmans, UNOs and Sholakia Eidgha Management Committee were also present and addressed the meeting.
The meeting has decided not to allow setting up of makeshift cattle markets except the approved place by then local administration. SP Md Anower Hossain Khan said that a special security arrangement has been taken up in the town and upazila areas ahead of the upcoming the Eid-ul-Azha. The police and RAB ensure security to all the buyers and sellers at the cattle markets.
To make the security effective the police setup a control room at Sholakia cattle market in the in the town. Special attention would be given to securing areas in and around the cattle markets where huge money, transitions usually widen scope for criminals.
Foolproof security measures have also been ensured by the district police to keep law and order situation under control in and around at all cattle markets.
As part of other security measures, RAB would set up close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, spy sunglass, counterfeit currency detestation machines at the cattle markets.
Sylhet Correspondent adds: Sylhet Metropolitan and District Police have taken stringent security measures for peaceful celebration of Eid-ul-Azha. The measures were taken at a meeting at the SMP headquarters on Tuesday with Police
Commissioner Md Gulam Kibria in the chair. Senior police officers including chiefs of crime division, traffic division and detective branch attended the meeting.
Police Commissioner Golam Kibria has said steps are being taken to prevent any possible attempt to smuggle rawhides from Sylhet on the Eid day and after. This is why none would be permitted to take unprocessed rawhides from the Sylhet city and its adjoining areas that time. However, the genuine traders would be allowed to take the rawhides to Dhaka after minimum processing with salt, he added.
He however assured of providing all out assistance to the skin traders. The official also said sufficient number of mobile teams of lawmen would be deployed to prevent all petty crimes on the roads while assuring strong action against extortion of all types from the cattlehead traders as well as the rawhide traders.
Police would be vigilant to prevent all unwanted incidents and help safe transportation of the sacrificial animals at all points now on.
Leading cattle traders, transport vehicle owners association officials and Imam Samity officials also joined it.
The skin and rawhide traders at the meeting however said, almost there was no scope of rawhide smuggling to India through the Sylhet border since there was no tannery on the Indian state of Assam and Meghalaya. But they sought police and administration’s assistance to prevent any move to smuggle the item through Akhaura borders from Sylhet.

Police Commissioner Golam Kibria said, over 1500 dressed and plainclothes policemen will be deployed in and around of all the cattle markets in the district.
