As part of the security precautions, a number of clubs in the diplomatic zone area have issued security alerts to their members.
Considering intelligence reports, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has tightened security at the capital’s diplomatic zone and other parts of the metropolitan area ahead of Independence Day on March 26, said Mushtaq Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner of Gulshan Division under the DMP.
“We are tightening security ahead of March 26, and the security alerts issued by various clubs upon instruction from us are a part of the precautions. This is something we do ahead of any special occasion,” the DC said.
Earlier, Gulshan Club Senior Manager (Administration) Nurul Alam told the New Nation “DMP has asked to issue a security alert for our members as precaution to ensure their safety. As a result, we have sent messages to all our members regarding the matter.”
Extra security measures have also been taken on the club premises as per the recommendations of police, he added. Gulshan Police Station Offcier-in-Charge (OC) Abu Baker Siddique said that detectives have netted their surveillance on residential hotels, clubs and others establishments as terrorists and radical groups do not get any chance to carry out any attack like New Zealand massacre during celebration of the Independence Day.
