Security beefed up at all power plants

The government on Thursday directed to beef up security at all the power sector entities across the country in the wake of Dhaka and Sholakia terrorist attacks.
The instruction came after a meeting among all companies involved with electricity generation, supply, transmission and distribution at the energy, power and mineral resources ministry in the secretariat, with its State Minister Nasrul Hamid in the chair.
“The meeting evaluated the security measures at the power plants and substations, and instructions were given to increase security arrangements,” Mohammad Hossain, Director General of Power Cell, told The New Nation yesterday.
Senior officials of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), Dhaka Power Distribution Company, Dhaka Electric Supply Company Ltd, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board and Power Grid Company of Bangladesh attended the meeting.
Saiful Islam Chowdhury, spokesperson of the BPDB, said security has been beefed up in and around all power plants and substations of the state-run company soon after the Gulshan attack.
Additional monitoring has already been put in place, he said.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) has directed its officials to enhance security at its all power plants.
BREB Chairman Major General Moin Uddin gave the directives in a view exchange meeting held at its conference hall very recently with the high officials, senior general managers and other officials.
He said, “BREB and Pally Bidyut Samity are the valuable assets of the country. We have to protect these resources at any cost.”
He urged all the employees of the BREB and their families to follow the religious norms and to shun the path of extremism. He also urged all to watch all unusual incidents happening around us in order to ensure the security of the national resources.
He advised all to install Close Circuit Camera (CCTV), metal ditector, archway, and fire extinguishers on all the campuses of the BREB. He also urged all to monitor visitors’ complexes, guests and outdoor invigilators.
He asked all to inform the nearest police station or district administration or RAB or the other law enforcement agencies if anything suspecting incident happens. He requested all to be cautious about their children.
He directed all the senior managers to be alert and to act as the chief of the department of their own workplaces. He requested the Imams of the mosques situated inside the BREB campus to preach the moral code of Islam.
Islam does not approve any kind of extremism, anarchy or indiscipline.
