In the wake of hijack alert in India, three international airports in Bangladesh, including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport [HSIA] in Dhaka, have been brought under special security arrangements to prevent any untoward situation.
At the same time, the visitors have been barred from entering the airports while all the international and domestic passengers were taken under thorough checking using metal detectors and other security apparatuses, official sources said on Sunday.
Earlier in the morning, the security agencies were put on high alert in Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad Airports after getting specific tip-off about a plan to hijack aircraft departing from these three airports simultaneously, according to the Times of India.
Just after spreading the news, the Bangladesh Police Headquarters in a verbal order asked the agencies concerned to take additional security measures in all international airports. Besides, the security personnel beefed up their checking at the sensitive points using vehicle scanners, said a senior official of HSIA, requesting not to be named.
The number of members of about 18 departments employed at the airports, including police, RAB, SB, NSI, DB, APBn and Customs Intelligence, has been raised to intensify vigilance in uniform and plainclothes. Of them, the members of Crisis Response Team of APBn are directed to continue vigilance round-the-clock, the official added.
ADC Immigration of Chittagong Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport Arefin Jewell said security has been intensified.
Echoing the same, Manager of Sylhet Osmani International Airport said special security measures have been taken there to resist unwanted situation.
