A security mobile app, ‘Self Protect’ developed by a local young man has been launched here.
Deputy commissioner Parimal Singh opened the app at his office on Sunday.
Police super Ansiur Rahman, app developer Saddam Hossien and coordinator of the app project Mamun Or Rashid were also present.
‘Self Protect’ security app is a location-based service that could help one in emergency situations such as physical assault, injury, robbery, or in case one gets lost.
The app sends distress message with one’s current location to nearest police station and at maximum two chosen contacts once the power button is pressed thrice.
The app is based on the GPS in Smartphone and it lets one notify his/her emergency contacts with the current location within seconds a critical operation that becomes difficult or even impossible in case of emergency.
Besides, the locations of police stations, hospitals, fire stations, ambulances and blood banks along with their phone numbers could be collected through the app. Speaking on the occasion, the DC said the app will play an important role in ensuing public security.
