The administration of Noakhali’s Companiganj Upazila has once again imposed Section 144 in Basurhat Municipality as the law and order in the area deteriorated over the clashes between two groups.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Ziaul Haque Mir confirmed the information on Tuesday night.
A man was shot dead and more than 50 people were injured in the clashes between supporters of Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and former Upazila Chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal on Thursday afternoon. Six policemen, including the officer-in-charge of Companyganj Police Station, were injured while controlling the situation.
UNO Ziaul said Section 144 has been issued in Basurhat municipal area from 6 am to 12 noon on Wednesday.
Earlier on February 22, section 144 was imposed in the municipal area due to clashes between the two groups.
