Several countries, including the United States and China, have already begun trials for their Covid-19 vaccines to eliminate the virus.
The Chinese vaccine’s first trial has already been completed. The country is likely to launch the second trial of their vaccine in Bangladesh.
Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Prof. Abul Kalam Azad, came up with the remarks on Friday while addressing a virtual conference arranged by Bangladesh Health Reporters’ Forum.
He said the second phase of trial of the coronavirus vaccine, discovered in China, could be held in Bangladesh.
Based on the trial, production of the vaccine also may start in Bangladesh, he said adding that, “It’ll bring another success for the people of Bangladesh in tackling corona.”
Dr. Abul Kalam said the coronavirus could have earlier spread from one infected person to two or more people in the country. .”But now that reproduction rate or R-rate has come down to 1.05 which is a very good sign.
Besides, he said the number of infections that are still being reported every day suggests that the corona situation is stable in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have surged to 130,474 with the registration of 3,868 more infections in the past 24 hours till Friday.
Besides, the death toll from Covid-19 has stood at 1,661 with the deaths of 40 more people during the period.
