A day-long citizen’s conference on SDGs in Bangladesh will be held in the capital on Wednesday aiming at giving voice to those who are left behind in the implementation process of the global agenda.
Citizen’s Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh will arrange the ‘Citizen Conference 2017: Implementation of SDGs in Bangladesh’ at Bangladesh Krishibid Institute.
“The basic theme of the conference is no one to be left behind. The conference will be held with three major objectives,” Convener of Citizen’s Platform Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya said at a press briefing in the city’s Cirdap auditorium on Sunday.
He said the three objectives are; to give voice to marginalised, disadvantaged and discriminated population of Bangladesh; to make more visible the contribution of non-government sector and the private sector in SDGs implementation; and to explore the areas of collaboration between the non-government and government sectors.
Dr Debapriya said through this conference they want to achieve more awareness among the citizens and policy makers about the people who are left behind from the development; better coordination among the non-government sector and private sector in implementing SDGs; and improvement of the collaborative relationship and partnership with the government, non-government and private sectors.
“All these three objectives and achievements will be connected through five major inputs in the conference,” he said.
The five inputs are release of a research report prepared by CPD on who are left behind in Bangladesh; debate, discussion and presentations on all the pillars and goals of SDGs; an exhibition on contributions made by the non-government sector and private sector in SDGs implementation; an inspiration movie regarding creating awareness about who are left behind; and finally a citizen’s declaration 2017.
“We strongly believe through this we’ll improve the voice of the marginalised people, create social mobilisation and awareness, and also make the government and the society accountable to these marginalised people,” Dr Debapriya said.
