unemployed youths courses on skill: SDF-DYD MoU signed

Social Development Foundation (SDF) and the Department of Youth Development (DYD), Ministry of Youth and Sports, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding on February 03, 2014 at the Department of Youth Development office in order to collaborate short and long training courses on skill and technical knowledge development of the under employed youths and Jibikayan Group (self-help group) members of SDF initiated projects. The objective of this collaboration is to equip the under employed youths with skill and create for appropriate employment. Managing Director (acting) of SDF and Director General of DYD signed the agreement on behalf of the respective organizations. The Chairman of SDF was also present in that august gathering to grace the occasion. The training program will get off the ground very soon.
Through a development lens, SDF believes that development can bear no fruit without effective resource mobilization. Mulling this pivotal point over, SDF is advancing ahead to motivate, organize and groom the deprived youths through well coordinated programs so that they would be able to sow seeds of prosperity among them for harvesting golden tomorrow. To put outstanding contribution in youth development and involving youths in nation building activities, SDF has identified about 55,000 unemployed youths (one youth from each poor and HCP families) in the project districts which will increase when more unemployed youths will be added from new project interventions. The ultimate objective of SDF for the unemployed youths is to provide suitable job opportunities in the country or abroad through relevant skill development training and livelihood support.
It is to be mentioned that a total of 262 youths from “Nuton Jibon” project villages won the opportunity of overseas employment through an agreement between the governments of Bangladesh and Malaysia and some of them already left for abroad. Furthermore, a large number of un/under employed youths of SDF project areas have been registered for overseas employment in Hong Kong, Singapore and some of the Middle East countries as part of the government’s initiative.
As an initiative of government, DYD has extended cooperation for building partnership with different government and non-government organizations resulting in signing of MoU between SDF and DYD. DYD will provide need/demand based training in consultation with SDF and sharing of resources to unemployed youths of SDF-organized groups in Social Investment Program Project (SIPP) areas.
This MoU will be valid up to January 2019 and may be extended further upon the agreement between SDF and DYD. The MoU between SDF and DYD will help immensely the under employed youths to be covered under SIPP-III which is expected to be launched in late 2015 with the financial assistance of World Bank.
