A patient at Pabna Mental Hospital was killed during a scuffle with another patient on Saturday, the hospital authorities have alleged.
Joynal Abedin, 32, got into an argument with Ashraf Ali, a patient from another ward, said Director Abdur Razzak. “They started hitting each other. At one point Ashraf choked Joynal to death.”
But relatives of other patients said that those admitted are physically abused during treatment and Joynal must have died because of it.
Police have taken the body to Pabna General Hospital after the hospital notified them at noon,
Sadar Police OC Kazi Haniful Islam told bdnews24.com. He said he didn’t know about the cause of death.
“The body was sent for autopsy to find out how he died. I don’t know anything more.” Joynal Abedin hailed from Nengtadaha village of Natore’s Baraigram. He was admitted to ward no. 9 of the hospital.
