Speakers regarded Science Olympiad as a vital means of flourishing latent talents of students as the competition enable them to enrich their confidence. So, there is need for arranging more science Olympiads for the students to groom themselves as skilled persons, they said. Government and non-governmental development organizations concerned should come forward and take initiative to this end, they added.
The observations came in the closing session of regional unit of Third Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad-2017 held in Rajshahi University (RU) on Friday.
More than 350 students from 35 schools in Natore, Bogra, Naogaon, Chapainawabgonj, Kushtia, Joypurhat, Pabna and host Rajshahi districts participated in the Olympiad organized by Bangladesh Science Society and Bangladesh Freedom Foundation.
They took part in a tricky combined examination on Physics, Chemistry and Biology held in the second science building.
RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan and Pro-VC Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha addressed the session as the chief and special guests respectively with President of RU Science Club Noor-E-Ishraque in the chair.
VC Prof Abdus Sobhan said the world is moving forward keeping pace with the advancement of science.
The junior science Olympiad would help explore latent talents of students and take Bangladesh ahead.
In the closing session, some of the participating students were also given certificates for their brilliant performance.
