A schoolgirl was stabbed to death allegedly by her stepmother at Auchpara in Tongi area on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sajia Alam Joya, 12, a class VII student of local Pilot School and daughter of Shafiul Alam, a resident of the area.
Quoting local people, police said Shafiul married Farzana Islam first and then married Mariam Begum, 26.
Farzana and Mariam used to quarrel over the issue. On Saturday morning, when Farzana went to her father’s house over a family feud,
Mariam stabbed Joya indiscriminately, leaving her dead on the spot.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital, morgue for an autopsy. On information, police rushed in and arrested Mariam in this connection.
