A schoolgirl was found hanging from a tree at Molankhuri village in Sadar upazila on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sabitri Rani, 13, a Class-VIII student of Molankhuri High School and daughter of Sumen Roy of the village.
Family sources said Sabitri went out of their house around 10pm on Thursday but did not return home.
Locals spotted her body hanging from a tree on the bank of the Shinua River at the village around 7am today and informed police.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy.
Family members claimed that Sabitri used to talk to a young man, Bholanath, 23, son of Ram Prasad of Dabtoli village in Ranishankail upazila. She also talked to him before going out of the house.
Sumen alleged that Bholanath killed his daughter and hanged the body with the tree.
Meanwhile, police arrested Bholanath over the incident, said Mashiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
