Police recovered the beheaded body of a schoolboy from an abandoned building in Hatibandha upazila on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Ripon, 14, a class VI student of a local school and son of Aiyub Ali of Shingimari village in the upazila.
Quoting family sources, police said Ripon went out of his house for going to Hatibandha upazila parishad on June 29 and since then he remained missing.
Later his father Aiyub Ali lodged a general diary with the local police station on the following day.
Locals spotted Ripon’s body inside an abandoned building of the upazila parishad and informed police on Thursday.
Police recovered the body around 6pm.
The body bore several injury marks and the head, hands and legs were severed from the body, said Matin Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Hatibandha Police Station.
The motive behind the killing could not be known immediately.
