A schoolboy, who had been suffering from fever after receiving bite from a rabid fox two weeks ago, died at Ronkeli Nurupara village in Golapganj upazila on Thursday.
Locals said 20 people, including Mehedi Hasan Sourav, 9, a class IV student of Rankeli Government Primary School and son of Riaz Uddin of Ronkeli Nurupara, were injured receiving bites from a rabid fox on August 14.
Riaz Uddin, father of the victim, said after the incident Sourav was admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital and he was later brought home following cure to some extent after six days of admission.
On August 29, Shourav fell sick again and was readmitted to the hospital; but he was later brought back home upon doctors’ instruction following further worsening of his condition, said the father.
Shourav died at home around 4 pm.
