A schoolboy was beaten to death in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh on Thursday morning on doubt of trying to break the lock of a stationery shop in a local market of the district.
Deceased Riaz, 14, was the son of Saudi expatriate Saidur Rahman Shahin. Riaz was the student of class VIII.
Local source said that some traders, including
Ashraful Islam and his brother Kamrul Islam, clubbed Riaz tiding him with a tree around 5am at Mor Bazar area on charge of trying to break lock of their stationery shop, leaving him dead on the spot.
After the incident, Asharful Islam and some other traders fled away.
Gafargaon Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Shamsul Alam Khokan said, there were many complains of theft against Riaz. He was recently imprisoned in a theft case.
Officer-in-Charge of Gafargaon Police Station Mohammad Abdul Ahad Khan said that preparations for the investigation and filing of the case are going on.
