A schoolteacher was hacked to death by his rival over a land-related dispute at Police Line Paschim Para in Sadar upazila early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Ruhul Amin,70.
Quoting locals, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Azmaul Huda said there had been a longstanding dispute over the ownership of a piece of land between Ruhul and another person of the village.
A group of miscreants attacked Ruhul and chopped him indiscriminately when he was going to a local mosque for Fajr prayer early in the morning, leaving him dead on the spot.
Locals noticed the body of Ruhul lying beside the Magura-Jhenaidah highway in the area at about 8am and informed police.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Magura Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Ruhul might have been killed over a land-related matter, added the OC.
A case was filed in this connection.
