Police have recovered the bodies of a female schoolteacher and her housemaid from their house in ??Osmaninagar Upazila of Sylhet. The incident took place on Saturday night at the Dayamir Swairgaon area of ??the Upazila.
The deceased were identified as Swairgaon Primary School teacher Tapati Rani Dey, wife of Dr. Bijan Bhushan Dey of Swairgaon and her housemaid Gouranga Vaidya.
Osmaninagar Police Station OC Shyamal Banik said both Tapati Rani Dey used to live in Swairgaon along with her husband and son, who are doctors. The husband and son left for the workplace on Saturday afternoon. When Bijan Bhushan Dey returned at night, he got no response from inside. Later, he informed the police.
Osmaninagar Police Station SI Nazmul Huda entered the house breaking the bathroom window of the house at around 12:00 pm and spotted the decapitated body of Tapati and the hanging body of the housemaid.
Police believe the killings took place after dusk.
After the incident, Sylhet SP Mohammad Farid Uddin and other senior officials visited the spot at night.
OC Shyamal Banik said the motive behind the crime is not clear yet. Police have recovered the bodies and started work to investigate the incident, he added.
Meanwhile, earlier on Wednesday morning, the throat-slit bodies of a woman and her two children were recovered from their house in Binnakandi Dakkhinpara village under Gowainghat Upazila in Sylhet. The woman’s husband Hifzur Rahman was also hospitalized in critical condition with multiple sharp weapon wounds, including a slit throat, on different parts of his body.
