School teacher gets life term for killing college student in Jessore

A court here on Monday convicted a school teacher and awarded him life term imprisonment for killing a college student Helaluzzaman at Chandipur village of Monipur upazila in 2008.
The convicted is Enam Ahmed, assistant teacher of Joka Komolpur Govt Primary School, and son of Alamgir Hossain of Hanuar village of the upazila.
The court of Jessore district special tribunal Judge Nitai Chandra Saha handed down the verdict after examining all records and witnesses.
The court also fined him Tk 20, 000, in default, one more year’s rigorous imprisonment.
Besides, the court acquitted eight finding them innocent.
According to the prosecution Palash of Khapara and Ripon of Biswaspara locked into an altercation over taking tea at Rajganj bazaar on April 15, 2008.
Following this altercation, a clash ensued between the relatives of Palash and Ripon on the next day. However, local seniors calmed them.
Meanwhile, the convict swooped on Helaluzzaman of Chandipur village and stabbed him indiscriminately at Bhanur mor area in the morning in this regard.
Later, locals took him to Monipur upazila health complex where doctor shifted him to Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH).
The doctor of KMCH refereed him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) as his condition deteriorated.
Helaluzzaman succumbed to his injuries at DMCH on April 17, 2008.
Victim’s brother Shamsul Haque Montu filed a case with Monipur Police station accusing nine men.
