A 12-year-old school student was electrocuted on Saturday noon in the city’s Matuail area. The victim was identified as Md Jasim Munshi, son of Khokon Mia, a resident of Dakhhin Matuail under Jatrabari police station. He was a student of class three of Matuail Primary School Jasim was reportedly electrocuted as he touched a live wire while trying to collect a ball from the rooftop of their house around 12 noon, police and hospital sources said. He was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the on-duty physicians pronounced him dead.
A sombre mood engulfed the hospital with the death of the student while his school went into mourning after hearing the news of his death.
