School level tree plantation has a bigger role towards inspiring the students to more tree plantation leading to protecting environment from further degradation. This is the time of making the tree plantation popular among the teachers, guardians and students to sustainable reduction of carbon emission coupled with mitigating the adverse impact of climate change.
Rotarians, social workers and volunteers made this observation while addressing a post-rally tree plantation programme in Rajshahi city on Sunday.
Rotary Club of Metropolitan Rajshahi organized the programme at Silver Jubilee Government Primary School at Kumarpara area to mark the welcoming of Rotary Year 2018-19.
The tree saplings were planted to inspire young students in tree plantation and make the primary school premises green.
Chaired by Headmaster of the school Ambia Ferdousi Khanom, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Club President Rotarian Saidur Raham, General Secretary Rotarian Tariqul Karim Shape, Treasurer Rotarian Wahidul Kabir and Rotarians Shafiqur Rahman, Monjurul Alam, Prodip Mridha and Dr Sujit Sarker.
Encouraging teachers, employees and young students in tree plantation, Saidur Rahman called upon everybody to plant at least three saplings annually saying that the better deeds of present time would leave a better and habitable planet for the future generations.
“Tree plantation is the most effective way to create an eco-friendly green nature and mitigate adverse impacts of climate change in bringing environmental equilibrium as well as economic development,” Rotarian Rahman added.
He said the fury of nature has been causing various natural disasters like tornado, droughts, floods and other natural calamities for a long time due to climate change threatening habitation, environment, ecology and agriculture.
“Massive tree plantation and increasing forest resources area could protect environment, ecology and bio-diversity to halt the deteriorating situation and save many living species of animals, birds, insects and other flora and fauna including fishes from extinction,” he said.
He narrated beneficial aspects of forests and important role of trees in human life and cited examples of the Sundarbans that saved millions of lives when the sidr hit the coastal belts of the country in 2007.
