A local influential person grabbed the playground of Bhorakhali Government Primary School at Balaghata area in Sadar Upazila of the district and cultivated vegetable there.
As a result, the students of the school are deprived of playing. After a spot visit, it was seen that one Abdul Malek cultivated vegetables and fruits on the playground.
President of the school committee Shamsul Alam said despite repeated complaints, there was no solution.
It is mentionable that a local resident Shamsul Alam donated 30 decimals of land to build the Bhorakhali Government Primary School, and also sold 10 decimals of land to Abdul Malek.
Land owner Shamsul Alam said, “Abdul Malek bought 10 decimals of land from me. I handed over the land to him but he occupied the school’s playground instead of the designated place without any reason. We informed the matter to the higher authority, but there was no response.”
Meanwhile, Abdul Malek said, “I occupied the land as the land owner did not hand over my purchased land. I requested him several times but he did not pay heed.”
Head Teacher of Bhorakhali Primary School Emran Faruq said, “The school students have no place for daily assembly and games. As a result, their physical growth is being hampered. I urge the authority concerned to resolve the matter immediately.”
While asked, Upazila Primary Education Officer Rabindra Saha said, “There is some complexity regarding the donated land of the Bhorakhali Primary School. The man who donated the land to the school did not mark it. So, the adjacent neighbour occupied some portion of the land.”
“We submitted a report to Sadar Upazila official to demark the area after investigation. If the area is demarked, there will be no problem,” the officer added.
