A school girl committed suicide by hanging herself with the scarf to the ceiling fan following nuisance of a girls school at her room in the city’s Gulbagh area on Tuesday night.
The victim has been identified as Sumaiya Akhter alias Maliha, 14, daughter of one Mohammad Ali and Moonmoon Begum, House No. 276/B, Gulbagh, Shahjahanpur, Dhaka.
She was a student of class IX at Shaheed Faruq Ikbal
High School. Police recovered the hanging body from the 6th floor of the rented house and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for an autopsy.
Police also picked up the school teacher on charge of harassing the girl during the last examinations in the school. The detained teacher Rimi Akter was taken into police custody for interrogation.
Earlier, a Dhaka court granted a-day remand for Rimi when she was produced in the court along with a remand plea on Wednesday afternoon, said Shafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shajahanpur Police Station.
Maliah secured very poor marks in the previous examinations and her answer scripts were illogically seized by the teacher and it frustrated Maliha and inspired her to commit suicide, the police official said.
Besides, Rimi threatened Maliha and her fellows to continue coaching classes, the OC said quoting the family members. A case was filed with the police station on charge of provocation to commit the suicide, he said.
Maliha was targeted by her teacher only for personal jealousy, said a suicide note. She blamed Rimi only for her suicide on the fateful night, it said.
Maliha requested also in the note that somebody should take step to send her madam (Rimi) to the mental hospital, it added.
