All educational institutions in the country will be reopened from May 23 as per previous decision of the Education Ministry.
Secondary and Higher Education secretary Md Mahbub Hossain said the authorities of the institutions have been directed to take necessary preparations for reopening their respective educational institutions.
He said, “We are continuing online classes. Besides, the student are being given assignments at homes which is temporary postponed for the ongoing lockdown.”
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has already gave directives to the authorities concerned including the heads of the educational institutions to take necessary preparations to start the learning activities by reopening all the government and non-government secondary and higher secondary educational institutions.
After detection of first COVID-19 patient on March 8 last year, the government declared closure of all educational institutions from March 17 that year.
Earlier this month, the education minister said the government may review the decision to reopen educational institutions if the rise in the coronavirus infection rate continues.
Dipu Moni announced in February that the schools and colleges would reopen on Mar 30 after a year of shutdown due to the outbreak. The government had earlier decided to reopen the universities on May 24. The government cancelled the PEC tests for fifth graders, JSC tests for the eighth graders and annuals exams of other grades last year due to the pandemic while HSC results were published by averaging the scores of JSC and SSC tests. It ordered the educational institutions to complete the preparation for in-person lessons attaching maximum priority to the health of the students, teachers and support staff so that they can reopen anytime as the outbreak ebbed in the beginning of this year.
