Vaccination against Covid-19 of school children will be started from November 1, Health Minister Zahid Maleque announced it on Thursday.
As per his announcement, the inoculation drive will be held at 12 centres of the capital city initially with the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine.
The minister said it to the media after attending the weekly cabinet meeting at the Secretariat.
He said that the government targeted to vaccinate about 40,000 students daily in those centers.
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education had earlier sought information of students aged 12-17, including their birth certificates, from all schools and colleges in the capital.
After the completion of this campaign, it will be expanded to 20 other districts, sources said.
There are more than 10 million school children under the 12-17 age group in Bangladesh, officials said.
The authorities already conducted a trial run by vaccinating over 100 students at a school in Manikganj on October 14.
School and college students of Bangladesh returned to class on September 12 after a prolonged pandemic-induced closure since March 17, 2020.
