The government will provide stipend to meritorious children of migrants in a bid to inspire them towards higher education.
The stipends will be distributed before the Ramadan, said Jahid Anwar, Assistant Director (Information & Public Relations) of Wage Earners Welfare Board under the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.
A total of 165 students who obtained GPA-5.00 in different classes will be provided with the stipend money.
Of them 80 are Primary Scholarship recipients, 50 junior school certificate holders, 35 secondary school certificate holders and 35 are higher secondary school certificate holders will get Tk 900, 1000, 1500 and 2000 per month respectively for study. They will also be provided with Tk 1500, 2000, 3000, 3000 respectively per year for purchasing reading materials.
He said the students who are continuing their studies will get the scholarship. The money has been allocated from Wage Earners Welfare Fund.
The students will get the money for three years, two years, two years and four years in that order. The government last year also gave such stipend among 200 students.
