Sector Commanders Forum – Muktijuddho ’71 on Tuesday strongly protested the Pakistan’s statement over the execution of two war criminals – BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed.
SCF, a pro-liberation organisation, also termed the statements of Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch as agents of war criminals saying these two organisations are engaged in misleading the people by giving such statements.
“We strongly condemn and protest the Pakistan statement. Violating international and diplomatic norms, the Pakistan government has sided with war criminals,” SCF leader Haroon Habib told journalists at a press conference at the National Press Club in city.
Major General (retd) KM Shafiullah also spoke at the press conference.
The SCF leader asked the Pakistan government to refrain from interfering into Bangladesh’s internal affairs.
“Now the government will have to think whether it will continue its diplomatic relations with Pakistan after its continued interference in our domestic issues,” Haroon Habib said.
The SCF criticised the BNP’s stance on the war criminals saying that the real face of the party has been unveiled as it nakedly supports them.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s human rights activist Asma Jahangir criticised the Pakistan government for demonstrating ‘disproportionately high passion’ against the execution of two top war criminals in Bangladesh.
“The government (Pakistan) was only confirming the fact that the two men were political agents and working for the cause of Pakistan,” she told Pakistan-based Dawn newspaper.
“The response sent a message that the government of Pakistan had extraordinary love and affection for the opposition members in Bangladesh than its citizens,” Asma Jahangir told reporters at the Supreme Court on Monday, the Dawn reported her on Tuesday.
The Pakistan government on Sunday said, “We have noted with deep concern and anguish the unfortunate executions of the Bangladesh National Party leader, Mr. Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mr Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed. Pakistan is deeply disturbed at this development.”
On Friday Human Rights Watch (HRW) in a statement had said the Bangladesh government should halt the imminent executions of two men convicted of war crimes.
On Monday, the government formally lodged a strongly-worded protest with Pakistan for its remarks on Sunday’s execution of two war criminals who sided with the Pakistan occupation forces committing atrocities against pro-liberation people.
