Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) has launched a campaign to remove banner festoons in different areas of Sylhet city without the permission of the authorities. Since last Tuesday (July 6), work has been underway to remove various banner festoons in various parts of the city, including the city’s main thoroughfares. Authorities believe that the beauty of the city is being tarnished due to the presence of banner festoons in different parts of the city for a long time.
Hanifur Rahman, administrative officer of the city corporation, told the media that all types of banners except the Great Mujib Year and the Silver Jubilee Bill of Independence would be removed with great caution before Eid-ul-Azha. The campaign will continue in 27 wards of the city. That is why he asked the people of the city to be aware and cooperate.
Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury said the city corporation will start an eviction drive to remove illegal billboards, signboards, banners, festoons and others advertisement tools from the city from Tuesday (July 6).
