Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) was established in 2004. The building is growing over time. The city is floating in the tide of development. People are losing space. It goes without saying that there is no place for leisure in the life of a citizen. Walkways have become a popular leisure destination in the city of Sylhet. But this time five walkways are dreaming. These walkways built by rescuing rhymes and jallas will be the new door for the city dwellers to relax – this is the expectation of all.
According to SCC sources, five walkways have been constructed in Goabari, Upshahar, Jallarpar, Baluchar and Tilagarh areas of Sylhet city at a cost of around Tk 40 crore. These walkways are already waiting to be opened.
Nur Azizur Rahman, chief engineer of Sylhet City Corporation, said, “The construction work of suburban, Jallarpar and Baluchar walkways has already been completed. The Jallarpar walkway has been leased on several conditions including operation and maintenance. It will be open soon. “
A closer look at the residential area of the suburbs of Sylhet city shows that Haldichhara was ruled by the occupiers a couple of years ago, and garbage dumps. Over time, it is now a sight to behold. If you are tired of walking, there are 23 benches to sit on and a flower garden to visit.
According to SCC sources, the city corporation started the construction work of the walkway at a cost of Tk 14.96 crore in 2019 by rescuing the land of Haldichhara from the hands of the occupiers. Work on the 565-meter-long, 35-foot-high and 8-foot-wide walkway was completed in 2021. However, before the inauguration of the walkway, it has become a favorite pastime of the people of the area.
In the same year, the Sylhet City Corporation started the construction work of Goabari Walkway adjacent to Tarapur Tea Garden after rescuing Kalibari rhyme in 6th ward of the city. Work on the walkway, which started at a total cost of Tk 15 crore, is still going on. However, due to the green nature, quiet environment and the noise of birds, the walkway has already become very popular. So in the afternoon, the entertainment-loving people crowd here.
