SCC distributes Tk 32.83 lakh grant to 1500 poor students

Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) distributed Tk 32.8300 among 1520 slum dwelling and privilege-deprived students. The project titled Development of Marginal People” under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) is being implemented by Sylhet City Corporation.
In order to distribute the aforesaid amount of educational grant, a simple ceremony presided over by SCC Chief Engineer Noor Azizur Rahman, was organized at Poet Nazrul Auditorium at Rikabibazar in Sylhet City yesterday evening.
While addressing as Chief guest Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury said, Sylhet City Corporation has been working for uplifting the marginal people. The corporation has been trying to develop the socio-economic condition of these slum-people. The slum people face parity and suffer economically. Without the development of these people, the rational development of Sylhet city people will prove futile. The SCC has undertaken various development programmes for the slum people and their less privileged children.
We appealed to the honourable LGED Minister to extend the project to be concluded in June 2019. We hope the government will extend the project for the benefit of the poor children”.
The Mayor added further, æSylhet city-dwellers will avail themselves all modern facilities after June 2020. In order to carry on the project Tk 30 crore and 20 lakh will require”. Turning to Information and Communication Technology (ICT), he said, æSylhet city-dwellers will receive all modern facilities”. The Mayor said, æIn Sylhet city 36 computer training centres will be established to train up marignal people free of cost. Each centre has 8 to 10 computers. To establish these centres the government will need 36 educational institutions. Sylhet district administration will select them. The SCC will supervise the on-going project”.
The Mayor said, æIn online, the city-dwellers will pay be all type of bills through App and websites. The intending city-dwellers will be able to apply for any type of job and service. For public security, initiatives have been taken up for installing CCTV. We must utilize properly the service given by government”.
