The High Court on Sunday granted anticipatory bail to Supreme Court Bar Association President Advocate Zainul Abedin and Secretary Barrister A M Mahbubuddin Khokan in a vandalism case.
The bail order will continue for six months or until the police submit the investigation report, the court said.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Miftah Uddin Chowdhury and Justice Md Abu Taher
Mohammad Saifur Rahman passed the order after hearing a bail petition jointly filed by Zainul and Khokan seeking bail in the case.
Police filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on January 3 on charge of vandalising vehicles and obstructing police from discharging duties during an agitation enforced by BNP leaders and activists centering BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s appearance in a court at Bakshi-Bazar in Dhaka.
Zainul Abedin and Khokan, also a Vice-chairman and Joint-Secretary General of BNP respectively, were present in the courtroom during bail procedure.
